The Village’s Commission on Family Services promotes emotional, social and physical well-being of Skokie's most vulnerable residents through outreach, education and advocacy.
As part of its efforts, the Commission hosts a monthly Food, Toiletries and Clothing Drive at the Skokie Farmers’ Market. Donated items are provided to Niles Township Food Pantry and the Niles Township Clothing Closet at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, organizations which serve local families.
At its first donation drive event of 2023, the Commission collected:
- 300 pounds of non-perishable food and toiletry items
- 150 pounds of fresh produce from Market vendors
- 38 bags of clothing
How to Donate
Community members can donate items on the last Sunday of every month, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Skokie Farmers’ Market (June 25, July 30, August 27, September 24 and October 29). Donations are collected at the main entrance to the Market – look for the Skokie Commission on Family Services banner. View the Skokie Commission on Family Services brochure for more information.
Other Commission initiatives include the annual Boomers and Beyond Senior Resource Fair – a free community resource fair offering educations programs, health screenings and information from local organizations. This year’s event will be held on Friday, November 3, 9 a.m. to noon, at Oakton Community Center, 4701 Oakton St.
