The Skokie Police and Fire departments remind you that all fireworks should be handled and used by trained pyrotechnic experts only.
The possession, transportation or use of illegal fireworks is a Class A misdemeanor in the State of Illinois. Fireworks – including sparklers, which burn at temperatures above 1,000 degrees – cause thousands of injuries each year. Loud noises associated with fireworks can be especially traumatizing to veterans, young children and pets.
Enforcement
The Skokie Police Department will increase patrols surrounding the July 4 holiday weekend and will be enforcing Illinois’ illegal fireworks law and Village ordinances. If found in violation of any fireworks statutes, fireworks may be confiscated and individuals cited.
Not allowed: The use of combustible or explosive devices, including fire crackers, sky rockets, sparklers and roman candles, is prohibited.
Allowed: Some very small explosives that do not require an external flame for ignition are permitted, including snaps, party poppers and paper caps.
How to Report Fireworks Violations

Officers will respond to fireworks-related calls as soon as possible given the anticipated large call volume on Independence Day. The Village of Skokie wishes you a safe and happy 4th of July.
