DEA Drug Take Back Day (JPG)

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) National Prescription Take Back Day is on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Skokie Police Department, 7300 Niles Center Road, Skokie, Illinois, 60077. Please bring unwanted, unused, and expired prescriptions for safe disposal.

In addition, the Village of Skokie offers an expanded Drug Collection/Disposal program. A white drop-off box is located in the lobby of the Skokie Police Department for residents to turn in unwanted, unused, and expired prescriptions at any time.

Items accepted for disposal include:

  • prescription medications
  • prescription patches
  • prescription samples
  • all over-the-counter medications (i.e., pain relievers, cold medication, etc.)
  • pet medications
  • vitamins and supplements

Please empty loose pills/tablets/capsules from their original container into a resealable plastic bag (pills may remain in blister packs which can be placed into a resealable plastic bag).

Bring the sealed plastic bag into the Skokie Police Department, where property officers will be on hand to collect items for proper disposal.

Empty prescription bottles cannot be accepted for disposal at the Skokie Police Department. Remove identifying information from prescription bottle labels and discard empty prescription bottles appropriately.

This program does not accept:

  •  needles/sharps (Note: sharps in approved, puncture-proof containers are accepted by the Skokie Health and Human Services Department and other local sites. See more information.)
  • prescription liquids
  • prescription ointments
  • prescription lotions
  • aerosols
  • thermometers
  • bio-hazard or infectious waste
  • food items
  • personal care products
  • hydrogen peroxide or alcohol
