The Skokie Health and Human Services Department (HHS) announced that effective on August 23, 2021, all individuals over age two who can medically tolerate a mask, are required to wear a mask indoors. The order requires mask wearing in common areas of multi-unit residential buildings and public places, such as restaurants, movie theaters, retail establishments, fitness clubs and on public transportation.
HHS instituted the mask order due to the rising rate of COVID-19 cases and community transmission in Skokie that has progressed from 103, 111 to 120 total new cases per 100,000 over the past three weeks. The order also is consistent with the Cook County Department of Public Health's mask order that is now in place. Vaccination, masking in public indoor settings and social distancing remain the most effective means of slowing the transmission of COVID-19.
According to the order, businesses are required to post signage that states that masks are required. The Village of Skokie has created a sign that can be posted by employers. Download a copy of the mask order sign.
