The Village of Skokie began conducting lead and copper monitoring (sampling and testing) in 1992 when the Lead & Copper Rule was implemented by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). In 2002, based on Skokie's satisfactory sampling results during the past sampling periods, the IEPA placed Skokie on a reduced monitoring requirement for lead and copper that requires testing every three years. Based on Skokie being a large water supply, a minimum of 30 samples are required to be taken during each established sampling period (every three years) under reduced monitoring approved by IEPA.
- During Skokie’s last sampling period in 2020, the 90th percentile results for lead was 3.46 parts per billion (ppb). No samples in 2020 exceeded the 15ppb IEPA Action Level.
- During Skokie’s sampling period in 2017, the 90th percentile results for lead was 5.15 ppb. No samples exceeded the 15ppb IEPA Action Level.
- During Skokie’s sampling period in 2014, the 90th percentile results for lead was below the laboratory Detection Limit. No samples exceeded the 15ppb IEPA Action Level.
