Update, July 15, 2019 - Construction of 8000 North Concrete Panels Complete
A significant milestone has been reached as the exterior "skin" of the concrete panels for the residential tower for 8000 North have been completed. To showcase the panels, a sample was staged on the construction site on July 15th. Everyone is encouraged to visit the site along the Oakton Street frontage to see the panels as well as the significant foundation work completed in Phase 1 of the project. Each panel is numbered and will be delivered from the manufacturing facility in Wisconsin to the site in the proper sequence as the superstructure is developed.
The 8000 North project being constructed on the northwest corner of Lincoln Avenue and Oakton Street in Downtown Skokie is a mixed-use development that will feature a 153-unit, 12-story luxury apartment building and ground-floor retail space. The development also includes a six-story parking garage with 73 public parking spaces for the development and Downtown Skokie visitors beyond the 192 private resident parking spaces. The residential building will offer studios, one and two bedroom units, along with a number of three-bedroom residences on the twelfth floor. The building’s rooftop amenity level includes a fitness center, great room with fireplace, outdoor barbecue area, coffee lounge, garden areas and other amenities – including views of the Chicago skyline - for building tenants to enjoy.
Phase I of the 8000 North Development, which began in fall 2018, was recently completed. This construction phase included installation of nearly 100 caissons at approximately 60 to 70 feet in depth to support the garage and residential building foundations, grade beams for all foundation work, stormwater storage tanks and the sanitary sewer connections. In addition, all underground utilities have been installed and the foundations for both the residential building and parking garage an in place. With all of the Phase I work now complete, the project awaits additional governmental approvals before moving to Phase II which will include vertical construction of both the garage structure and residential building. Building occupancies are expected to begin in mid- to late-2020.
