The Governor’s Office has just announced that effective Friday, November 20 at 12:01 a.m. that all 11 regions in the State of Illinois will move into Tier 3 Resurgence Mitigations. These new mitigations are intended to suppress the spread of the virus and ensure hospitals do not become overrun. According to the state, COVID-19 has now spread exponentially in every region of the state, with the statewide positivity rate and hospitalizations now exceeding the spring 2020 peak.

The new mitigation measures include limits on capacity at retail stores and at personal care establishments, additional restrictions on health and fitness centers, bars and restaurants and more. Gathering in groups is dangerous and the chance of transmitting COVID-19 is exceptional in a group setting.

Public school districts are encouraged to follow extensive guidance issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education in August 2020 and make decisions at the local level. Child care facilities may continue to operate subject to DCFS guidelines.

The Village's Health and Human Services Department is urging residents and the business community to re-commit to being vigilant about practicing the 3 W’s to help prevent the spread of COVID-19: Wear a Mask - Watch Your Distance - Wash Your Hands. See this short video created by the American Medical Association and other healthcare partners about how to protect your health and the health of your family, friends and entire community.

All of the following are important steps to stop the spread of the COVID-19 disease:

  • If you don't have to do it, don't do it - stay home!
  • Wear a mask whenever outside your home or around people not from your household;
  • Watch your distance, staying at least 6 feet from people outside of your immediate household;
  • Wash your hands or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer often;
  • Avoid social gatherings, especially indoors;
  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or if you have been in close contact with a person infected with COVID-19; consult with your healthcare provider for medical evaluation and testing, as needed; and
  • Get your flu shot to prevent illness from influenza and to prevent possible co-infection from influenza and COVID-19. Although the Skokie Heath Department's flu shot clinics have concluded, flu shots are still available at many local pharmacies and health care providers.

We can get through the challenges posed by COVID-19 together! We can wear masks, avoid gatherings, socially distance and wash our hands to keep ourselves, our families and neighbors healthy and safe.
