Drop off your pumpkins for recycling at Skokie Village Hall, 5127 Oakton Street, beginning Saturday, November 7 at 9 a.m. through Sunday, November 8 at 3 p.m.
The Skokie Public Works Department is providing a dumpster for this free collection, and the pumpkins will be composted, which is nature’s way of recycling with many benefits, including producing a useful, nutrient-dense soil amendment. Pumpkins are 90 percent water which is great for the soil and not so good in landfills.
When bringing your pumpkins for recycling, please make sure to remove:
- Candles
- Lights
- Stickers
- Yarn
- ‘Googly eyes’
- Add-on ears, moustaches
- Any other plastic or metal material.
Painted pumpkins are okay to recycle!
