At the June 1, 2020 Skokie Village Board meeting, Skokie Mayor George Van Dusen spoke on behalf of the entire Village Board about recent events in the United States, saying, "We are all heartsick over the events in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the passing of Mr. Floyd, as well as all the preceding incidents that have happened in the country. Skokie knows a little something about the dark force of prejudice. This is the town that was under assault famously by the American Nazi Party and later by the Ku Klux Klan. We believe in tolerance, equality and diversity."
