Living in Downtown Skokie - New Developments, So Many Options!
Residential and mixed-use options including several new developments within downtown Skokie has resulted in an influx in the number of people residing in downtown Skokie. This highly desirable area offers a variety of housing options for all tastes ranging from new to vintage, affordable to luxury, multi-family to single-family and rental or owner-occupied. Live within walking distance of restaurants, watering holes, groceries, the CTA Yellow line train, numerous bus routes and many retail and service establishments. The downtown has experienced significant new development over the last ten years and more is on the horizon. Some of these projects include:
The BLVD. is a 40-unit boutique luxury rental building completed in 2021 featuring two-bed/two- bath residences, up to 1,600 square feet that include condo quality finishes. Building amenities include elevator, heated attached garage parking, storage, mail/package room, and common rooftop deck with views of Chicago’s downtown skyline. The BLVD is directly across the street from the Skokie/Oakton CTA stop offering a quick and convenient commute into the city and walking distance to many neighborhood stores, shops, and restaurants!
Highpoint at 8000 North is Skokie’s newest luxury rental building began welcoming new residents beginning in February 2022. Click here for leasing information. This $60-plus million transformative mixed-use project was designed by renowned architect Lucien LaGrange featuring 153 units ranging from studios to three-bedroom penthouse units with dramatic views of the Chicago skyline. The Highpoint features state-of-the-art amenities including rooftop terraces, fitness studios, demonstration kitchen, shared workspaces and convenient ground-floor retail and restaurants.
In 2023, a 143-room Homewood Suites by Hilton is expected to open at the corner of Oakton Street and Niles Avenue and will include a rooftop pub & restaurant, ground floor retail, meeting/conference space, and a full menu of guest amenities. As part of this project, a 300-space parking garage will be constructed and will provide public and hotel guest parking.
8039 Elmwood is an eight-unit boutique elevator condominium building completed and sold-out in early 2022. The project features two- and three-bedroom homes with top quality finishes, a heated parking garage, 2,500 square feet of ground floor commercial space, and two penthouse units with private rooftop decks and outdoor space.
Nea Maya construction continues to develop projects in downtown Skokie. In 2021, Luxury on Lincoln, a 16-unit live-work townhome project was completed and sold out before construction began. In 2022, Nea Maya began construction on their newest project which is an 18-unit mixed use residential rental building located at 8110 Lincoln Avenue. Nea Maya plans to occupy the 2,300 square feet of ground floor commercial space by relocating their designer showroom to Skokie.
The Floral Avenue neighborhood by StreetScape was completed in 2018 and features 20 custom-built, sustainable and ‘front porch revival’ homes representing an urban ‘not so big’ architectural design option for homeowners. This wildly successful project achieved the highest home prices in Skokie during that time.
Coming Soon: New residential projects will break ground in 2022 with the addition of three different mixed-use buildings to be constructed along the east side of Skokie Boulevard and north of Oakton. These projects are anticipated to bring an additional 150 residential rental units and 32 new for sale condominiums. Additional commercial space and amenities for these buildings will anchor the street level and add additional public parking for the area.
